Social Responsibility

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the ceremony of the Moravian-Silesian Region Governor’s Award for Social Responsibility took place at the BrickHouse in Ostrava. In recent years, the topic of social responsibility has been gaining new dimensions and increasing importance (not only in our submission). This year, 52 entities participated in the 2022 Regional Governor’s Award for Social Responsibility and we won, as we did three years ago, in the category involving business entities with over 250 employees.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Award was once again announced by the Moravian-Silesian Region together with the Quality Council of the Czech Republic. The award is intended to highlight and thank business entities and organisations for doing more for the region and its citizens than is required by legislation. The evaluation committee assessed a number of social, environmental and economic indicators for the competitors. It focused, among other things, on their relationship to the environment and its social needs, support for socially vulnerable groups and the disabled.

“The purpose is to show that there are companies that are not only concerned about how to make a profit, how to produce something, but also perceive their social responsibility. That means they are doing something extra. Hyundai is here for the umpteenth time, which is proof that they take it very responsibly and that it’s really a thing that forms part of the genetic code of the whole company. For me, Hyundai is an integral part of this whole competition,” said Ivo Vondrák, the region’s governor.

“The award is very important for me personally and for our company. It proves that being socially responsible is not just a phrase for us, but something that we are constantly improving and moving forward. I am very pleased that not only the region appreciates it, but also our employees, because they themselves help us to be socially responsible,” says Barbora Hermanová, Head of the Public Relations Department of HMMC, who received the award together with Petr Michník, Head of the Administrative Subdivision, at Tuesday’s gala dinner at the BrickHouse in Dolní Vítkovice. The award was presented to them by the governor Ivo Vondrák together with the director of the regional office Tomáš Kotyza.

How and where do we help?

Our plant has been involved in socially responsible activities for a long time. In recent years, we have launched a number of other socially responsible projects and entered into new partnerships with organisations in the region. We are a partner of the FC Baník Ostrava Academy, Dolní Vítkovice and Technotrasa, and we also cooperate with ČSOP Salamandr on the restoration of mountain meadows in the Beskydy Mountains. We also regularly announce grant programmes to support the development of the region.

However, corporate social responsibility encompasses a number of other areas – whether it is an emphasis on occupational safety, respect for the environment and ecological operation, support for innovation and production efficiency, but also a wide range of employee benefits or communication with suppliers. Through the involvement of all departments in the company, we are developing the principles of sustainable business. The Governor’s Award for Social Responsibility thus belongs to all our employees.
