In 2016, a total of 358400 cars rolled off the production line at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) in Nošovice, which is 8400 more (+ 2.4%) than the production target. A year earlier, 342,200 cars were produced at the Hyundai plant, so there has been an increase in production of 16200 cars (4.7 %).
In 2016, a total of 358,400
cars rolled off the production line at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC)
in Nošovice, which is 8400 more (+ 2.4%) than the production target. 342200
cars were produced at the Hyundai plant in 2015, so there has been an increase
of 16200 cars (4.7 %).
Of the Nošovice models, the global record holder Tucson, Hyundai’s best-selling
SUV, was the most successful with 247,000 units, or 68.8% of production volume,
followed by the second-generation Hyundai i30, with more than 73000 cars
produced (20.5%). Nearly 34000 (9.4% of
total production) of the third model, the compact MPV Hyundai ix20 were
produced, and 4500 of the third generation Hyundai i30 were produced.
Production of the i30 began in mid-December, just a week before the planned
winter outage.
Last year, cars were
exported to 66 countries from the Nošovice plant, literally “from Silesia to
the end of the world”. Most cars went traditionally to Germany (almost 45000 cars),
Great Britain (more than 44000 cars), Italy (31500) and Spain (30000). The
Czech Republic ranked fifth, with more than 16200 cars reaching domestic
customers, which is approximately 4.5% of total production. The ‘end of the
world’ is represented by the French overseas territories, such as the New
Caledonia archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, French Guyana in South America or
Martinique and the Guadeloupe islands in the Caribbean, where only a relatively
small number of cars are sold.
HMMC in Nošovice is the only Hyundai manufacturing plant in Europe, or rather,
in the EU, and it has major customers all over Europe – from Iceland through
Norway, the whole European Union and the Balkans, to Cyprus and Malta in the
Mediterranean. The Hyundai Tucson is also very popular in the Middle East, and
where its major customers include countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia and
Kuwait. The farthest flung major markets of Nošovice factory are Australia,
Mexico and South Africa.
The number of HMMC employees did not change significantly during the year, and
currently stands at 3346 people. It is also worth noting that for the whole of
2016 there was no workplace accident in the entire HMMC plant that required
even one day of absence. This safety record is part of how the company operates.
Hyundai Nošovice has been officially named a “Safe Enterprise”, has twice won the
National Quality Award in the “Excellence” category, has won the title
“Employer of the Year” three times, and six times has been named “Company of
the Year of the Automotive Industry Association”.
The production target for 2017 remains unchanged: 350000 vehicles as in 2016.
This year, three new versions of the Hyundai i30 will be introduced – in spring
it will be an estate (world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March), in the
summer a powerful sports car “N” and at the end of the year a fastback
with a tailgate. This year, the production of the Hyundai ix20, which has been
produced at the HMMC plant in Nošovice since September 2010, will also be
discontinued.
